SMTP

Introduction

The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is a communication protocol for electronic mail transmission.

SMTP is important because it provides a common set of guidelines for messages to be transferred from one email host to another. Essentially, SMTP is the only way any email can be sent from one provider to another without losing any of the content or functionality.

Connection

The SMTP Connector provides a connection to an internal SMTP Receiver, which receives SMTP/MIME email and writes the documents to a directory on the disk, from where they are processed. Unlike the Email Connector, the SMTP Connector does not actively collect email documents from the mail server.
